Virtual Buyers Caravan
After more than 50 years of internal conflict, Colombia is in the midst of a historic peace process. Therefore, the Coffee for Peace Initiative, supported by the Department of International Development of the United States of America and the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia seeks to establish commercial alliances in international markets with the aim of developing, facilitating and promoting the trade of specialty coffees in areas of historical conflict in Antioquia, Bolivar, Caqueta, Cauca, Meta and Valle.
The Caravan
Innovation. This is how Colombia has faced the COVID-19 barriers with new methodologies to sell its coffee abroad. Previously the large buyers of coffee beans personally visited the regions of the crops, selecting the desired harvest and closing deals with the coffee growers, however the impact of the pandemic in terms of travel and in general tourism and business trips has boosted new forms of commerce.
Colombia had its first virtual caravan of Colombian Coffee Buyers (VBC), providing samples of each lot at the homes of buyers in Romania, Australia, England, Taiwan, Denmark, South Korea, the Netherlands, among others. During the caravan the buyers had direct contact with the coffee growers, who answered all their questions for the subsequent closing of sales.
"At Coffee for Peace we don't just work with coffee, we work with culture, ethnicities and people full of passion for what they do."
